Under the joint auspices of the CAS Center for Management, Innovation and Evaluation (CMIE) and the Royal Society of London, a seminar on S&T evaluation convened in Beijing on April 25 and 26. CAS President BAI Chunli was present at the meeting and delivered a talk.
Co-chaired by former president of the Royal Society of Chemistry Prof. Dave Garner and CAS Vice Secretary-general PAN Jiaofeng, the gathering brought together scientists and policy experts from different institutions in China and UK, including CAS, the Royal Society, the China National Center for S&T Evaluation, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, UK Embassy in Beijing and Research Councils UK Office in China.
The participants held in-depth discussions on four themes, namely institution diagnostic assessment, the selection of priority research fields, performance assessment and researcher promotion evaluation, and selection of and support for young scientists.
CMIE Director Prof. LI Xiaoxuan and Senior Policy Advisor of the Royal Society Rapela Zaman were executive co-chairs of the meeting.
